A Bit of Colour to Brighten November

As is obvious from my work, I do love COLOUR! I also love natural and subtle shades and the colours of the sea but as all the leaves, trees and fields turn to brown around me, I thought a little splash of colour would be nice here on the blog.

Above is a pile of recycled sari silk. I've had it laid out to use for weeks but haven't had a chance to use it yet. I thought some colourful houses by the sea might be nice using the silk for a change. I also love the effect it gives when used with the embellisher machine so lots of possibilities there.

These are pieces ready to be made into necklaces, brooches and wrist cuffs. Lots of snippets of voile and organza are laid out over felt then heavily machine embroidered with straight and zigzag stitch.

I use a selection of shimmering and metallic threads which I have to say are not cheap. When I made the first batch of these I used up threads I already had but when I had to go out and buy lots of new colours I realised I was probably selling my jewellery pieces too cheap. I love the effect of the heavy stitching and wouldn't like to scrimp on it.
I'll have to put my necklaces up to £12.
When I see jewellery for sale that has a mass produced pendant piece on a chain though, I don't think £12 is too much. Each of my daisies and hearts are handmade and unique.

Below is a photo of a pattern that I love. It was on a dress in a newspaper clipping that I have had for years. I think the colours are fabulous together and that delicate little design is so pretty.

So todays job is to produce some more densley stitched fabric in the above colours and in a turquoise and silver combo too. I might even incorpoate some of the silk into the mix!
